Semi-Volatile Analyst

Performs sample preparation and/or analysis per published methods and Standard Operating Procedures.


  • Preparing and/or analyzing environmental samples based on published methods and Pace Standard Operating Procedures
  • Able to work more independently than Laboratory Analyst I
  • Following quality control procedures as outlined in documented procedures
  • Preparing standards and reagents
  • Evaluating and performing calibrations
  • Documenting all lab activities in applicable logbooks and databases (e.g. sample prep, sample analysis, standard and reagent prep, instrument maintenance, etc.)
  • Entering data into Pace Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) as applicable
  • Responsible for performing tests (either sample preparation or analysis) based on published methods or Standard Operating Procedures
  • Responsible for scheduling or planning sample preparation and/or analysis based on available information regarding due dates and hold times
  • Responsible for evaluating primary analyses including sample results and quality control results
  • Responsible for evaluating other analyst’s work (peer review) as needed, including sample results and quality control results
  • Responsible for reporting opinions and interpretations for their specific functions via footnotes/qualifiers in LIMS
  • Performing routine maintenance of equipment and instrumentation, including troubleshooting
  • Responsible for keeping applicable workspaces clean and safe
  • Disposing of samples and by-products per required procedures
  • Handling of waste products per required procedures
  • Reviewing data from other analysts, if applicable, and recognizing discrepancies in data
  • Attending required company and department meetings
  • Completing required training activities within require timeframes
  • Contributing to method development as needed
  • Assisting with training of other analysts
  • Assisting with review and preparation of SOPs and training documents
  • Promoting cooperation and teamwork among staff
  • Following Pace policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Other duties as assigned


  • BA/BS in chemistry plus 2 or more years related experience; or 6 years of related laboratory experience with no degree. GC, GCMS & HPLC experience a plus.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to communicate effectively at a highly technical level both verbally and in writing
