Laboratory Safety Specialist - Part-time

Candidate will be part of a team that provides Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) support to laboratory R&D operations.


Hours: Part-time, 25-40 hours expected per week



  • Monthly safety surveys (enter safety surveys into database, track survey data, and make sure findings are closed out in a timely manner)
  • Initiate, follow up, and complete incident documentation of all incidents/injuries within a timely manner; complete WIMS investigations, identify root cause(s), and document measures taken to prevent reoccurrence; provide updates to management regarding causal analysis and corrective actions
  • Hazard Review documentation (including pre- and post- work) and identify processes within a division/area that will need a Hazard Review
  • Participate in monthly Tech Forum Lab Safety meetings; communicate EHS updates to committees as needed
  • Understand and follow waste storage and handling procedures; generate, update, or inactivate Waste Stream Profiles (WSP) as needed
  • Provide and follow up on all office ergonomic requests; coordinate with site ergonomics coordinator for non-office ergonomics assessments
  • Analysis of data related to ergonomic costs and identify opportunities to drive injuries and associated costs lower
  • Provide respirator fit tests
  • Air and Noise Monitoring and reporting
  • Lock Out/Tag Out (LOTO) training and procedure writing
  • Electrically Qualified Personnel Audits
  • Machine guarding assessments
  • Lab commissioning support (to include lab EHS readiness, equipment start up, pre-start up safety reviews, technical support for lab moves, and lab exiting for vacated areas)
  • Inspections of 90 day hazardous waste rooms


  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Safety Engineering, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or Chemistry
  • Ability to identify improvement opportunities, develop plans to close gaps, garner management support for key initiatives, and track improvement initiatives to closure
  • Risk analysis skills - capable of hazard and risk identification, assessment, and controls; communicate risks and methods to reduce risk
  • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and prioritize work effectively
  • US Person status required
