The Laboratory Project Technician will be a member of the biological response team (BRT) that supports various research groups (Swine, Aqua, Poultry, Ruminant, Additives) developing, executing and deploying laboratory technologies that support our business.

In this role, the technician will be mainly responsible for sample receiving, processing, storage, and shipment of samples. When needed, this technician will also support the animal units during sample collection. General lab tasks might include but are not limited to: ordering and preparing the materials/reagents required for sample collection, labeling, grinding, weighing, centrifuging, equipment maintenance, organizing and record keeping of the storage areas, etc.


Hours: This position is expected to last 3 - 6 months, Monday - Friday, 8 AM - 4:30 PM 


  • Order and prepare materials needed for sample collections including but not limit to cups, tubes, labels, reagents, etc
  • Perform duties such as sample splitting, drying, grinding, centrifugation, weighing, etc. of materials including animal feeds, blood, feces, digesta, rumen, etc
  • Process and store samples according to best practices and keep records
  • Be able to identify likely processing problems/contamination sources, and initiate troubleshooting as needed
  • Work aseptically with biological samples and be able to coach others in the importance of this technique
  • Become a knowledgeable and reliable liaison between the laboratory and the animal units
  • Follow GLP and practice good communications skills
  • Support the researchers by assisting with housekeeping
  • Maintain organized and clean storage units (freezers, refrigerators, bench space, etc.)
  • Work to ensure a safe work environment for self and coworkers
  • Strive to be a safety champion through the consistent execution of safe practices at work, at home through self-awareness and coaching of others, as needed



  • Bachelor of Science in the biological sciences
  • 1-2+ years of laboratory work experience processing biological samples
  • Proficient utilization of Microsoft Office suite software (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Self-starter. Demonstrates appropriate, science-based, decisiveness and judgment
  • Must be able to maintain a safe and clean work environment
  • Ability to work with biological samples (feces, digesta, blood)
  • Ability to support multiple projects simultaneously
  • Be able to use critical thinking and troubleshooting skills



  • Knowledge of animal biological systems
  • Strong desire to work in a team approach
  • Experience working in a research and development setting
  • Able to work extra hours and/or occasional weekends if needed
