  • Overview

    Proactively leads the Quality function of Pace Analytical Services’ Environmental Division and continuously develops and supports a strong quality culture within the organization at all levels.  Creates and drives all quality related initiatives throughout the Environmental Division, including but not limited to quality systems, product quality programs, quality assurance programs and continuous improvement programs.  Develops and executes quality strategies that support the growth of current product offerings and future pipeline ideas.  Tracks quality health and cost of quality within the organization through auditing processes and quality performance metric analysis; provides feedback and recommendations to senior management to support the company’s Quality Management System.  Provides management oversight and support to facility Quality Managers, ensuring consistency across the organization so that all facilities meet quality policies and procedures.  Ensures all Pace’s Environmental Division programs are fully compliant and meet industry and regulatory expectations. Responsible for managing the implementation, monitoring, and development of the company’s Quality Programs.


    • Creates and communicates a compelling vision for quality within the organization that supports both corporate and functional mission and goals.  Executes strategic and tactical quality plans to ensure the company’s growth plans are achieved in a timely and compliant manner
    • Responsible for providing strategic leadership, management and direction to the quality managers of the company and for ensuring Senior Management is kept aware of critical issues in the areas of responsibility
    • Continuously review and improve Pace’s Environmental Quality System Manual - This important living document must meet TNI/NELAC and other regulatory standards and be applied consistently in each environmental facility of Pace
    • Lead the team of Environmental Quality Managers from each facility to operate as independent yet aligned thinkers and achievers acting on Pace’s behalf and that of our customers to provide the most robust analytical testing data/product possible.  Raise the level of Pace’s Quality through this team
    • Understand and apply all regulatory requirements applicable to environmental analytical testing and for those certifications held by Pace Analytical Services – Environmental Division
    • Create and develop initiatives supporting the strategy of having Pace’s Quality System as a competitive advantage
    • Ensures quality is integrated into every product and all process change management processes, early stage to scale-up activities and process improvements for existing product offerings, as well as for new product offerings
    • Develops and reports appropriate metrics that monitor the health and cost of quality.  Ensures metrics are visible at all levels within the organization and that suitable corrective and preventative actions are implemented to address shortfalls.  Implements a Quality Management review process to ensure senior management is actively involved in managing quality within the company
    • Design and provide oversight of the Quality Program for Pace Analytical Environmental Services; the program will provide regular reporting of progress including ongoing guidance to the business. Yearly targets will be established with progression outlined in agreement with the Chief Compliance Officer in order to support the network of Environmental laboratories
    • Oversees, manages, coordinates, and prioritizes the daily activities of the Corporate Environmental Quality department and any assigned staff
    • Oversee operations of the Environmental Quality department related to testing and release of data in accordance with all SOPs, cGLP, company policies and procedures, TNI/NELAC requirements, and all other governing programs (including client specific QAPP requirements) related to the analytical data provided by the Pace Analytical’s Environmental division
    • Reviews and approves all analytical data deviations and change control documents in the absence of the Corporate Environmental Quality Manager
    • Reviews and approves SOPs that are drafted, reviewed, and approved by the Environmental Division facilities in the absence of the Corporate Environmental Quality Manager
    • Ensures compliance with and enforcement of SOPs and cGLP
    • Manages, reviews, and finalizes the completion of internal inspections and audits to ensure compliance with cGLP, SOPs, company practices and procedures, TNI/NELAC standards, and any governmental regulations with General Managers
    • Oversee, participates and approves the interviewing, hiring and training of department employees and facility Quality Managers; conducts performance evaluations for direct reports
    • Ensure project deadlines and performance standards are established and met
    • Develops and maintains effective working relationships with appropriate quality bodies, professional associations, external experts, and key opinion leaders
    • Represents the company and actively participates in industry quality groups that work to influence quality related activities
    • Develops and maintains effective communication and working relationships with Corporate staff, Senior GMs and Senior Laboratory management
    • Oversees the decision making, approval process, and communication with IT relevant LIMS issues and questions regarding methods in acquisitions, flags and footnotes, auto-flagging and related


    • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related discipline required, Master’s degree preferred
    • 10+ years in Quality Management with increasing responsibility throughout work history
    • At least 5 years progressive managerial years of experience
    • Experience in implementing and building a strong Quality Management System within an organization
    • Ability to provide advice and technical assistance in the preparation of annual budgets for Corporate QA and related
    • Ability to outline proposed funding for increases and new initiatives, estimated costs, expenses, and capital expenditures needed for department
    • Must be able to navigate through spreadsheets, develop charts, and write formulas (Excel)
    • Strong strategic management skills and abilities
